Jai Siam – wallet-friendly, authentic Thai in the east!

Jai Siam’s slogan says wallet-friendly authentic Thai cuisine. Well, it’s authentic, and value for money indeed!

Hubby already said he had a good feeling because the service staff was Thai, and we were not disappointed.

The dishes came out one by one – I believe they might have been short-staffed in the kitchen that evening, but everything was super freshly made. The hard-working sounds of the wok emanating from the kitchen was already proof of that.

Jai Siam is a very casual eatery along East Coast Road – you place your orders at the counter. But unlike several other “authentic” eateries that compromise service for awesome food, at Jai Siam, you get both. No surly waiters here.

Jai Siam Pandan Chicken

Pandan Chicken ($2.50/pc) – normally comprising a small piece of chicken thigh grilled in pandan leaf, the portions at Jai Siam are huge! We have never seen any other Thai restaurant offer such a big portion.

Jai Siam Prawns

The Fried Prawns with Basil ($9) came with four big prawns, drenched in a typical tamarind-based and spicy sauce.

Jai Siam Tom Yum

Only I wanted to have soup but the Tom Yum Soup ($7) portion that arrived could frankly, easily feed 4! Chockfull of seafood in a delicious broth, one of my favourites of the night.

Jai Siam Tang Hoon

Tang Hoon Seafood salad ($7) – not too spicy, just right and wonderful with refreshing lime flavor. And the squid, perfectly cooked – so much so that it almost seemed to melt in the mouth.

Jai Siam Fried Rice

Olive Fried Rice ($5) – again, another delicious dish.

Jai Siam Fish

Deep-fried Fish with Chilli sauce ($12) – came hot, came crispy and went down really well!

We’ve always bemoaned the lack of such authentic and wallet-friendly Thai cuisine in our hood, but no more! Jai Siam will be my go-to for Thai food in the east!
