All right, all my low-carb dreams are coming true with Persea. They aren’t exclusively low-carb but they are carb-conscious, indicating how many pesky carbs there are in each dish.
Ok, just to set the record straight, I’m a carb-lover. Way too much of one, which is why it’s imperative for me to have a low-carb meal once in a long while.
Persea just opened this year at Ann Siang Road, in the midst of Covid-19 taking over our worlds, but when I visited a couple of weeks back, they were buzzing on a Friday evening. Well, while we can’t dine out for the next few weeks, I see on the website that they deliver and gladly note that the prices and the items are about the same as what they serve in-house.
So let’s get on with the dishes we tried, and what I will want to enjoy again! And this time, carb counts are indicated as per what I saw on the menu.

Starters were the Chicharonnes ($8, 0g) and the Cauli-Hummus ($10, 4g). Those keropok-like things are crispy puffed pork skins and they are a low-carb option as a vessel for your hummus. They served us carboholics some bread, but I don’t see it on the delivery menu for now.

We relished the Calamari with chorizo fat ($24, 7g) – tender, nicely-grilled and delicious when slathered with zhug, a sauce made of coriander, chilli, lemon juice and olive oil.
The Shish Taouk ($24, 6g) sees chunky spice-marinated and grilled chicken served with a (low-carb) cauliflower tabbouleh and a mint-yoghurt sauce.

My highlight was the Barramundi ($30, 2g), though. Mmmm, the saffron was just right to perfume the beurre blanc sauce which had the perfectly-done fish and plump flower clams swimming in it. This is the one I want to order in for dinner, for sure!

Hubby had the Lamb Rump ($28, 1.8g) which was a good portion of grass-finished lamb with a minty chermoula paste. See for yourself how lovely and pink they made it. This is another dish that would travel well, I say.
Didn’t quite have room or time for dessert – we were there for the 2nd seating and they don’t kid around with last orders or clearing the drinks as per the regulations. But I’m eyeing the Rosemary Basque Cheesecake ($16) for my delivery, so hoping that will be good too!
Well, no dining out for now, but if you’re looking to try Persea, check out their delivery menu online.
